The coach of the American Hockey League’s Abbotsford Heat only has to look back to March of this year when he, in the opinion of some observers, “lost his mind” during a game and went “Hulk Hogan” while disputing the call of a referee.
Jumping onto the team bench, he broke a stick over the boards while firing verbal blasts at the ref. He then proceeded to tear off his jacket, grab another stick, hop onto the bench and break another stick over the boards.
It was a very public tirade. Considerably different from what Flames’ rookie Brett Sutter is faced with.
Sutter was charged with misdemeanour assault in Phoenix last week. The allegations against the young forward have not been proven in court.
“He made a decision and God knows we’ve all made decisions that we’ve looked back on with regret,” said Playfair. “I know I broke a couple sticks over the boards, I look back and say ‘OK, it is what it is’. You have to put it into its context and move on.
