From AP,The US Embassy said an American employee was involved in the incident in Lahore, but could not confirm details.Punjab Police officer Umar Saeed said the men were suspected robbers, but provided no evidence to back up the statement. He said the American, who was not identified, shot at the men in self-defense.Western diplomats travel with armed guards in many parts of Pakistan because of the risk of militant attack. Lahore has seen frequent terrorist bombings and shootings over the last two years, though the city’s small expatriate population has not been directly targeted.Lahore police chief Aslam Tareen said the American was being questioned by the police and may be charged with both murder and illegally carrying a weapon: a Beretta pistol. The American shot both men after they pointed guns at him at an intersection, Tareen said.

Google creates a tool to probe 'genome' of English words to cultural words by Harvard
A good English is better for all,no one live this world always so why we learn English not?The researchers were also able to trace how words had changed in English, for example a trend that started in the US towards more regular forms of verbs from irregular forms like 'burnt', 'smelt' and spilt. "The forms still cling to life in British English. But the -t irregulars may be doomed in England too: each year, they wrote. America is the world's leading exporter of both regular and irregular verbs.By the mid 20th century, the most famous actors tended to achieve fame at around 20 years of age, while writers had to wait until they are 30 and, for politicians, fame didn't tend to happen until they reached 40 or above. "Science is a poor route to fame. Physicists and biologists eventually reached a similar level of fame as actors but it took them far longer, wrote the researchers, even at their peak, mathematicians tend not to be appreciated by the public. For anyone tracking the cultural spread of specific thinkers, it is worth noting that so bad.
These are just some of the questions that researchers and members of the public can now answer using a new online tool called the "Cultural Observatory" developed by Google with the help of scientists at Harvard University. The massive searchable database is being hailed as the key to a new era of research in the humanities, linguistics and social sciences that has been dubbed "culturomics".
The database comprises more than 5m books – both fiction and non-fiction – published between 1800 and 2000, representing around 4% of all the books ever printed. Dr Jean-Baptiste Michel and Dr Erez Lieberman Aiden of Harvard University have developed the search tool, which they say will give researchers the ability to quantify a huge range of cultural trends in history.

escondido bomb house in USA
escondido bomb house
Thursday morning in the roof of the one-story home on Via Scott to provide the fire with the oxygen needed to burn quickly. The normal house fire is about 1,200 degrees, fire officials said.
A 16-foot wall was built between the home and its closest neighbor. A fire-retardant gel was spread Thursday morning on the wall. Vegetation was cut to keep the fire from spreading. Two fire departments are standing by.
Initially, officials had hoped to start the fire at 9 a.m. Wednesday. That was delayed until Thursday because weather specialists were concerned about overcast and wind patterns. The rescheduled time of 9 a.m. Thursday was delayed for similar reasons. Overcast could keep the smoke from drifting away.
After a final thumbs-up from meteorologists and bomb experts, authorities used a remote-controlled device Thursday morning to set fire to a house on the outskirts of Escondido containing massive amounts of bomb-making material.

gm stock price today:Great sale of 2010
Today has seen General Motors – also known as GM – start trading on the NY Stock exchange on IPO day, you should be able to see the GM stock price today on Market Watch. The initial public offering has set records, which analysts expect GM to raise around $23 billion that could be marked as the largest IPO in the world.
General Motors has had a tough time of late, and Chris Liddell (GM’s CFO) said he was “appreciative” towards those that stood by GM during this period. The stakeholders that stuck with GM should be happy with the results today, which have seen an increase at around 31 percent in their public offering.
Following on from the GM IPO date being set for final terms and stock price being set at $33 per share, we thought it would be good to take a closer look on “IPO Day”. Manikandan Raman over at Ibtimes.com asked if the blockbuster GM IPO would be enough? What are your thoughts on this? You can read their full article here, which looks at the potential of a speedier payback by General Motors to the U.S. treasury, and the article looks at the new GM owners that include Chinese state-run firms.
We should see the stock trade under GM’s symbol, and with car sales increasing the future looks good for GM but getting too relaxed could see problems creep up on them. Read more about GM’s IPO on ibtimes.com. What do you think GM’s next move should be?

Search for missing trio continues after teen girl is found [Ohio] [2010] [crime]
Relatives and friends of a missing Ohio woman will gather Monday morning to resume their search for her, her son and her friend.
On Sunday, the woman's 13-year-old daughter was found gagged and bound in the basement of a Mount Vernon, Ohio, home.
But the 32-year-old woman, Tina Herrmann, remains missing, along with her 10-year-old son, Kody Maynard, and her 41-year-old friend Stephanie Sprang.
All four of them had been missing since Thursday.
After her discovery, the teen -- Sarah Maynard -- was taken to a hospital for evaluation and treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, said Knox County Sheriff David Barber. Authorities had interviewed her "somewhat," he said, but would not divulge what was said. Police think she had been held since Wednesday, he said.
The teen was recovered in an early morning raid on the home involving a SWAT team.
Matthew Hoffman, 30, who lives in the home, was taken into custody after the raid, Barber said, and faces a kidnapping charge. Additional charges are expected, Barber said.
A combination of intelligence received and investigative work led authorities to the home, Barber said. Authorities were hoping they would find all four people, but knew they might find only Sarah Maynard, he said.
Police were still investigating whether Hoffman knew any of the four, he said. Asked whether Hoffman was cooperating,Police were still investigating whether Hoffman knew any of the four, he said. Asked whether Hoffman was cooperating with authorities, Barber said he was not.
Herrmann failed to report to work at a Dairy Queen in Mount Vernon, in central Ohio, on Wednesday, Barber told. A deputy twice went to her home in Howard, about nine miles east of Mount Vernon, and saw her pickup there. No one answered the door, though lights were on in the home.
A Dairy Queen manager went into the home on Thursday and found blood inside, Barber told the station.
Hermann's truck was found Thursday night near Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio, about seven miles southwest of Howard, authorities said.
The children were in school Wednesday, but not Thursday, the sheriff said. Sprang's car was found at Herrmann's home.
Asked about Hoffman's criminal record, Barber said he served prison time for an arson conviction in another state. He said authorities think Hoffman could "absolutely" lead police to the other three.

Man declared dead in arrested in kidnapping case [2010] [California] [Ny] [USA] [news]
Federal agents in Gulfport, Mississippi, arrested Sunday a 53-year old man, declared dead in 1994, on kidnapping charges.
Thomas Steven Sanders was arrested in the early morning at a Flying J Truck Stop. He is suspected in the abduction of Lexis Roberts, 12, of Las Vegas, Nevada. She was later found dead.
His capture is unusual because Sanders was legally declared dead in Mississippi by family members some 16 years ago.
"However, we now know that he is still alive and has ties to several states across the country," the FBI said in a statement earlier this month.
Sanders, who is thought to be missing most of his teeth, has changed his appearance several times over the years. He is described as a white male, around 200 pounds with brown eyes.
In September, Sanders was seen purchasing bullets at a local Wal-Mart in Las Vegas. The ammunition he bought was consistent with the caliber weapon used during Roberts' homicide, the FBI said.
The girl's remains were found by hunters in early October in a wooded area north of Harrisonburg, Louisiana. She was last seen with her mother, Suellen Roberts, and Sanders.
